Healthy Food Choices for Kids
Welcome to the November Carnival of Natural Parenting: Kids in the Kitchen
This post was written for inclusion in the monthly Carnival of Natural Parenting hosted by Hobo Mama and Code Name: Mama. This month our participants have shared how kids get involved in cooking and feeding. Please read to the end to find a list of links to the other carnival participants.
One way to get your kids interested in what they eat and make eating fun is to learn and do Obento (aka Bento) meals together! I had been doing these lunches for myself for a while when my preteen daughter got into Japanese culture. She has since become a member of a Manga club at a local library branch and wanted to take a Bento with her for a contest. Here is her first Obento:
There is a sushi rice base at the bottom, shaped boiled eggs (a teddy bear and a star), apple bunnies, ham and cheese rolls with sword picks, and a ham Kirby (from the video game) with raisin and apple accents. |

Monday Minimalist: Toys
We've gone through Sasha's toys a few times and gotten rid of (donated) some, stored some for rotation and stored some for Spencer. I really didn't think we had that many toys left... until we moved. We had boxes and garbage bags of toys! Holy cow they really were all over the apartment!
Moving into a 10 x 10 room as our main living space served as some severe inspiration! Something had to be done about this mountain of toys we still had! In the photo above (taken in our old apartment), you can see the ottoman in the back corner - it had become a play center where we kept all of Sasha's toys (or tried anyway). You can see it was overflowing. Then there were the random toys scattered about the place.

Sunday Surf
Happy Sunday everyone! I hope you're all enjoying relaxed (or busy, as you may choose) Sundays with your families. I have a To Do list, but haven't really started on much of it yet. Perhaps when I finish this post... How about a few links??
- One common reason I hear about breastfeeding relationships failing early on is newborn weight loss. Well there is a new study that explains a lot of that newborn weight loss and will hopefully arm some more parents against unnecessary supplementing. Check out Newborn Weight Loss and IV Fluids in Labor.
Code Name: Mama published a great article on the body autonomy of children specifically as it pertains to tickle games.I feel it is so important to respect our children's limits and boundaries. It is important to let them have some control and also let them learn that "no means no." Check out Tickle Me Not.
- Have you heard of the site End Routine Infant Circumcision (4ERIC.org)? Holy crap, this organization will send a card to your chosen physician or hospital - for free! You should click over and see the card (and send one yourself)! It is really cute and you can have it sent using your own return address or ERIC's return address.

Nursing through Pregnancy - 29/30 weeks
I don't know if you've noticed a trend here, but I was recently thinking about how I haven't figured things out until after - when it comes to my milk. It took some time to figure out that Sasha was asking for more food. Then I dealt with the horrid tickle for a bit before I figured out that my milk was dwindling and that this was probably the reason behind her being hungrier. My poor starving baby!
Then I went through a short phase (only a couple of weeks, thankfully!) where nursing would sometimes send my body arousal signals. It took a little bit to figure out that this was likely because my breasts were bone dry. I hadn't been dry (as far as I know) since Tyler was born 13 years ago!

Monday Minimalist: Join the Movement!
Have you been trying to follow along with any of the projects I've posted? Or perhaps got your own minimizing projects? Ever feel overwhelmed? Or even proud of your accomplishments? (I think it is important to celebrate small accomplishments.)
And the big question: Do you simply need a bit of accountability? Join in with my Monday Minimalist movement! Post your progress or your ideas. I'd love to have you join!
This is my 33rd week of doing my Monday Minimalist posts!
Hobo Mama is the one that suggested having a bloggy button for my MM posts. And then... she made a button for me! Isn't that awesome?!
Grab the button for your MM posts:
A big thank you to Hobo Mama for creating the button! Please do let me know if and where you choose to participate so I can perhaps set up a link list of other MM blogs. Thanks for your support as we kick off a Monday Minimalist Movement!
