My Chickadee is offering our readers a giveaway of a Babydoll Carrier, a value of $22.

The My Chickadee babydoll carrier lets your little one carry their doll so they can be just like you. This makes an ideal new sibling gift!

Janina, from My Chickadee, learned to sew when she discovered she was pregnant with her daughter. She now creates diaper bags, wet bags, totes, reusable snack bags, and a miniature carrier for children. This wonderful carrier lets a child carry their doll or plush toy just like you carry your child. This child-sized baby carrier makes a wonderful gift for a child welcoming a new sibling! My Chickadee products are easy to clean, machine washable as well as being lead & phthalate free. All of the products offered by My Chickadee are designed by a mom and made in the USA.

Sasha has never been as into her babydolls as I guess I had hoped she would be. She does, however, still love to be worn in my baby carrier. She was thrilled to receive her My Chickadee mini carrier! It renewed her interest in her baby dolls. I was amazed at how quick and easy it was to help her put on the carrier! It includes long hook-and-loop closures, so it can accommodate a wide variety of children and lovies.

The carriers are offered in a variety of busy fabrics that are the popular style these days. This carrier has an adorable pocket, though we haven't chosen any items for it yet.

The carrier seems very durable yet soft, very well put together. When wearing as a back-carry, it did seem like the straps rode up on my daughter a bit, but I felt like maybe I wasn't putting it on quite right. No instructions were included as it is a very simple design. I am hopeful that we'll get it right with more practice, just like any full size carriers.

BUY IT!

You can purchase your own Mini Carrier at My Chickadee. These are a steal at just $22. Items are shipped via Priority Mail with rates starting at $5.00 for one item for all destinations in the US. Express Mail is also available for overnight delivery. All orders are mailed with complimentary insurance and tracking.

My Chickadee also makes a very cool All-in-One Diaper Clutch (which includes a changing station). They also have a mini version so your little one can change their baby's diaper using the same tools you do! There are also a few versions of wet bags (divided, foldable, and mini) as well as reusable snack bags. Very green!

Giveaway: Organic Boba Carrier 3G – $160 ARV {5.25; US}

This is a joint giveaway with Momma Jorje and Natural Parents Network. You may enter at one site only. Please find the section marked "Win it!" for the mandatory entry and optional bonus entries.
This is a giveaway from Boba, a baby carrier company which is offering our readers a giveaway of an Organic Boba Carrier 3G, a value of $160.

The Boba Carrier may be converted to a newborn carrier without an infant insert or any additional items and used well into toddlerhood. This carrier can be used for children ranging in size from 7-45 pounds!

DSCF2240

My Organic Boba Carrier 3G arrived, neatly folded in a pretty box with a full color instruction manual including step-by-step photographs (also available online). This photo does not do the colors justice.

It is a beautiful carrier.

DSCF2247
The carrier has several different adjustments you can make, but it wasn't overwhelming. It only took a few minutes to have it on and ready to load with a child. You'll want help the first few times you load a baby on your back, but with practice I mastered loading a back carry alone.

Spencer was cozy back there. He could get his hands up and out to play with my hair, have them go through the straps or just tuck them in close to his body. The carrier totally supports his body. His legs were higher than his bum (it is not a "crotch dangler.")

DSCF2263
Spencer is about 20 pounds and is fairly easy to load onto my back. Sasha gets a bit jealous of him, though. On this day, she was sad and needing some reconnect time with me. She is 3½ years old and about 30 pounds, but I managed to load her on my back by myself after having practiced with Spencer. As you can see, she was thrilled to be on my back. She gets to sit on the counter and cook with me, but this was miles better!

This photo from the Boba site shows the colors better as well as a front carry. According to their manual, this carry is fine from 15-30 pounds. You see how these two are face-to-face? I found that even carrying Spencer (20 pounds, remember), he was too tall. I had to look around his head and would also hit my chin on him.

The back carry is for children from 20-45 pounds. I love that there is overlap there, so you can use it with whichever carry is right for you.

The Boba will also work as a Newborn Carrier (7-15 pounds) by snapping the bottom (no attachments or inserts necessary). It works great as a newborn carrier, but I don't like the snap placement when I carry Spencer because he winds up with these little circle indentations on his legs. This may not be an issue if you keep your baby clothed, but I tend to give him lots of naked time. (Wearing a naked baby is a great way to hone your Elimination Communication skills.)

I've used hiking backpacks, ring slings, mei tais and other carriers. This is absolutely my favorite carrier. I loved my wrap for Spencer when he was a newborn, but the Boba 3G is so versatile, holding babies from 7-45 pounds!
Boba Inc. is a group of dedicated people all working together to support babywearing, family travel, alternative learning, natural parenting, and other practices of secure bonding and attachment so that every parent can deepen their conscious understanding and appreciation of their relationship with their children. We recognize that there is no single formula to meet each particular child’s individual challenges and respect a mother’s innate ability to trust and know what is right for her own.
If that doesn't sound like a very "Natural Parents Network" kind of company, I don't know what does! The company supports a lot of organizations that support natural parenting ideals (including Attachment Parenting International, among others).

BUY IT!

You can purchase your own Organic Boba Carrier 3G at Boba for $160. There are 3 different organic fabric combinations or you can choose from adorable prints if you don't choose organic. Boba's other soft structured carriers range in price from $120 to $125, and they have wraps from $38 to $60. You can also find Boba carriers on Amazon.

Sunday Surf: With Love

Sunday again, already? Well I tend to keep this list down to 3 links for you so as to not be overwhelming or too much to read, but this week I can not help myself. I have some amazing stuff for you!

Carry Me

Go to any NP/AP forum, board, group, etc. and you're bound to see a discussion on favorite carriers. No single carrier is the answer for all parents. It sucks to go buy a carrier only to find that you and/or your child don't like it. And of course its an expense for a temporary item as it is. Well Carry Me has your solution! It is a Baby Carrier Lending Service! You can rent carriers from them! They even have gift accounts available so that you can give a rental as a baby shower gift!

Sunday Surf: Wipes, Books and a Carrier

I feel like I've not nothing productive all week. You know, other than feeding babies, changing babies, emptying the potty, washing diapers, washing clothes, washing babies, refilling the humidifier, occasionally feeding myself... There is always something else that needs done!

Here are the links I somehow managed to find for you:

~ Cloth Baby Wipes ~

Oh yeah! I did research and make my own wipe solution! I checked with Natural Parents Network and also found recipes at Zany Zebra Designs. I finally settled on my own version of one of the recipes:

  • 1½ C Hot water
  • 2 T Coconut Oil
  • 1 T Baby Wash

Spencer's bum has seemed red, though. I'm not sure if its from poop or the coconut oil, so I'm afraid to use it anymore. I'm taking a break. I was loving having it next to the cloth wipes in a travel spray bottle, though! I didn't add any essential oil, though the bottle had previous had diluted lavender. I like the resulting scent.

~ Little Free Library ~

One of my friends is trying to get some of these set up and the project just look awesome! I love it! Its a little free standing library box available for people to exchange books for free. Check it out!

~ Tablerunner/Placemat Onbuhimo ~

This is a tutorial on how to make a carrier (an ABC type or similar to a Mei Tai) out of a table runner and a placemat! Talk about upcycling!

Boba Carrier Review & Giveaway!

Awhile back I was looking through baby carriers online. I stumbled upon Boba. They make wraps and carriers, both. There was one thing that immediately jumped out at me about their carrier, something that made them stand apart from all the other carriers I've seen: patent-pending removable foot straps. I wrote to Boba and requested to be considered for review and hopefully a giveaway for my readers.

My Boba Carrier arrived very quickly! The packaging was nice, very professional. There were some inserts, brochures and the like. The largest of which (glossy, by the way), I suspected to be a catalog. Think again. It was an instruction manual complete with step by step photographs to accompany the details. It is written in several (8) languages.

Monday Minimalist: Minimizing Commitments

I used to be very involved in Girl Scouts. When you first start out as a leader, it is easy to get sucked into volunteering for all sorts of extra stuff. I didn't even start as a leader, I started as a Cookie Mom. By the following year, I was the Cookie Manager for our entire Service Unit (about 13 troops). I think they really ought to have a limiting system in place. It is easy to get burned out ~ fast! But they need volunteers.

June 2010
I dragged my 9mo baby around in the Summer heat for 5 days of Day Camp. We had fun, but it was a big commitment. I won't be able to do it again this Summer while pregnant. It is too hot.

So I cut back on Girl Scouts. It was no longer as fulfilling as it had once been. It was a commitment I dreaded. Just as hobbies and interests can come and go, so do other interests. I'm volunteering elsewhere now, in a way I can do from home. (I volunteer for the Natural Parents Network Wordless Wednesdays.)

I finally made it to a couple local Farmers' Markets, thanks to my Mom's inspiration. (She needed me to pick things up for her, too!) I am interested in attended more local events. I want to go to art and cultural festivals. I haven't really made any yet, but I've been adding them to my calendar. At least with these, I don't have to commit. When it comes time for it, I can go... or not, as per my whim.

Do you feel overextended? Do you have some commitments you could cut out? Even if you feel stuck, you have to remember to take care of you.

Advocating or just Opinionated?

Welcome to the April Carnival of Natural Parenting: Compassionate Advocacy

This post was written for inclusion in the monthly Carnival of Natural Parenting hosted by Code Name: Mama and Hobo Mama. This month our participants have shared how they advocate for healthy, gentle parenting choices compassionately. Please read to the end to find a list of links to the other carnival participants.

***

As parents, we're faced with SO many decisions. Sometimes we go with our gut, sometimes we research like crazy, sometimes we ask our friends and/or parents what they did when facing the same decision. There are more decisions to be made than a non-parent could even imagine!

So after making these decisions that will have such a huge impact on who our children become, I think we have to feel confident in our choices. We know we decided for a reason(s), whatever that may be. We may have even had to argue our ideas with a partner. I think the very confidence that is necessary to a parent can, when shared with others, come off as being opinionated.
