Monday Minimalist: Ultimate Minimalism

Today I have for you something that I think could be the ultimate in minimalism... and the greenest choice I have ever seen. Have you decided what you want done with your body once you die? Even if you donate / sell your body to science, I've heard that once they're finished with it, it still has to be... disposed?

I've already decided that I want to be cremated. I do not want to continue to take up precious space on this earth once I pass. However, Martín Azúa has taken it one further. Check out his Bios Urna Biodegradable!

Bios Urna BiodegradableImage is from Martín Azúa site.

You can have your ashes feed a tree! Read an article written about the Biodegradable Urn on BigThink.com. I just don't think you can get much more minimalist than this... at least not postmortem. Can you top this?

  1. I love it!

How about just getting plopped into a wooden (sustainable or reclaimed, of course!) and stuck into the ground?! I remember reading about a woman in Taos (not sure if that's it) who does this for people. There were tons of complaints, etc. and the last I heard she was winning!

Here's an article I found about straight burial, too: http://www.thedailybeast.com/newsweek/2010/08/26/green-burial-options-increase.html

  2. That's pretty cool. I've thought about donating my body to science. That way I'm reusable. ;)

Sam's leaning toward plain pine box, but I was wondering if they even made those anymore! Glad to know (from the link in the comment above) that it's an option still. Maybe you can be buried in a garden…

  3. Thanks, Jorje! I now know for certain how I would like to be buried, ha. This is a fabulous idea.
